How to use Soph's Outfit Editor

Everything the editor can do with 3DXChat .avatar files — from loading and layering to materials, hiders and exporting — explained step by step.

How to edit a 3DXChat .avatar file in the browser

Step-by-step: load a 3DXChat .avatar file in the browser, edit clothing, colors and layers, and export a playable avatar file again. Free, no install.

How to create layered, bug and glitch avatars

Layered avatar, bug avatar, glitch avatar, special avatar — community names for the same thing: editing the 3DXChat .avatar file to arrange items across slots and control hidden layers. Here is how it works.

Loading Avatars

How the editor loads 3DXChat .avatar files: drop or browse, 10 MB limit, server processing and statistics data collection.

Outfit Slots

How the slot sidebar works: equip items per slot, drag items between slots, independent L/R slots and the in-game enabled indicator.

Material Editor

Edit item materials on 3DXChat avatars: colors, metallic, glow, materials and supported prints, including items with two color layers.

Hider Settings

What the numbered hider values do: control how clothing hides skin and layers underneath, and why their effect depends on the item in 3DXChat.

Saving Your Avatar

How saving works: the edited data is re-encrypted on the server and offered as an .avatar download with an _edited filename. Keep a backup before editing.

Duplicate Items

What the EQUIPPED badge means, how Use Anyway works, and how to move or remove items.

Avatar Type

Where the female/male marker of a 3DXChat avatar comes from, what it controls in the editor — and why it cannot be changed.

Community Stats

What the stats panel shows: recorded avatar and item counts, popular items, and the configuration data retained by the statistics service.

Privacy

What is sent for decryption, encryption and statistics, and which extracted data and hashes are retained.
